On April 25, 2021, U.S. Navy personnel onboard the Royal Navy midget submarine XE7 were seen conducting exercises and demonstrations in the Gare Loch, Scotland. The submarine carries a five-man crew, as opposed to the three-man midgets which performed yeoman service against the Japanese and Germans during World War II. This spell of service with the U.S. Navy follows a policy of cooperation and exchange of technical information between the British and American navies. British midget technique is generally acknowledged to be the most powerful of any attempted by the navies of other world powers.
